So girls! I bought Duff's chocolate fondant to try it out and because I wanted to make some brown decorations. I made a small cowboy boot and hat but when I take it out of the fridge it started getting condensation and very soft. I was going to put it on a cake as decoration but now I'm afraid it will melt. Any suggestions? Should I just make them out of gumpaste instead? It's very humid and hot in Florida lately and especially today. I would appreciate some advice on this because I need to make the decorations this weekend. Thanks.
Not sure why you had it in the fridge? If you let it set without touching it the condensation should evaporate and once it is dry you should be able to move it to your cake. I never put my fondant in the fridge because of the condensation and if you live in a humid area... that might add to it. It is very dry here so no problems with that. I have had to put deep silicone molds into the freezer so they can harden up and as soon as I unmold them I put them on one of those greese spatter screens that I bought just for drying fondant and gumpaste pieces. I don't touch them for a day or two and they dry just fine.
Thanks for your advice. I put it in the fridge because with was getting very, very soft and I was afraid that it would melt. This is the first time I use chocolate fondant so I wasn't sure what would happen. I will try your method to see if it works for me. Thanks again. I apreciate it.
Hey Terry I live in florida too and it is awfully humid I agree to that..but might I suggest maybe try adding some tylose or cmc powder to it!
Add about 1/2 tsp of cmc powder to 250g of fondant and knead it into the fondant. Let it rest minmum 2 hours but overnight is better and then try the boots and cowboy hat again. I agree as humid as it is..dont put it in the fridge...because the humidity with ruin the fondant. But give hte cmc a try I think that will solve your problem...HTH!
