I must have done something right...my hubby just brought home a Cricut Cake for me! Now...where to begin. Does anyone have one and have some advice for me? Do I have to buy their gumpaste? I'm curious if anyone has tried fondant rolled super thin in theirs...
My birthday is in September! I already told my hubby that I wanted one! LOL! Enjoy your Cricut Cake! Not sure which would be best to use. I heard gumpaste works best, but I won't find all that out until I get mine.
I have used fondant/gumpaste mixture, premade fondant & mmf. They all worked great for me. I spread the crisco on the mat really thin the roll the fondant really thin. You should just be able to see the lines in the mat. It takes practice to get the speed, pressure, placement of needle down, but I like it. I have some cakes post on here that have cricut letters. One thing I recently learned was to let intricate designs hard a bit before placing them on the cake. When the fondant is soft it can be difficult.
I have one... It took a few trys to get it right, but I like the Fondant/Gumpaste mixture, so far it has worked the best. And yes if you do something small or very detailed let it harden a little it will just make it easier to use.
Tamara, good luck with your cake, can't wait to see it
Finally got an answer from my husband on this subject. I GOT ONE TOO!!! So excited!! JoAnn Fabrics has it on sale for $299.99 and the cartridges are on sale for $33.99. PLUS with every $50 dollars that you spend they give you a $10 off coupon good on a purchase of $10.00 or more! good until August 21 that can be used on regular and sale merchandise. I bought the machine, the three caking cartridges and a pack of their frosting sheets... spent $441.10 and got $80.00 worth of gift cards to use August 9-21. I'm going back tomorrow to buy more cartridges. Now I can't wait to get started!!
