Hey Carla
Fondant with a small amount of gumpaste/tylose added wil easily go over your dummy styrofoam cake as stated above. Don't forget to mist your styrofoam so fondant will stick. Unfortunately, some colour will fade over time, even if stored properly. Not so much the white/ivory, but brighter colours like blue, purple, etc. I store my dummies as Dawn Becker, above stated. In a closet of a spare room. But if you are using it right away, there should be no worries. If it is kept in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight...you will be OK. I made my daughter's top tier dummy about a month before the wedding as I was working and very busy. Looked just as good as the day I made it when I popped it onto to the cake.
Hope this is the answer you were looking for. :o)
Hey Carla,
Try using Cream of Tartar in your gumpaste. Use 25 % cornflour and 75% Icing sugar while making the gumpaste. For storage Wrap it in Clingwrap and then store it in a glass case away from moisture and sunlight. Should help. You may have a clean cake for at least a year!
Has any one used Perma Ice - Any suggestions in using it properly. Want a buttercream looking cake - not a fondant looking cake for a demo. help
