Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hullo, I was wondering if anybody can advise me on what it is that one would use to do a stand up picture on a cake that would not fall down?  I am wanting to make a winnie the pooh cake but instead of making his character out of fondant, I thought I would like to draw him and then cut him out and let him stand up (wanna make the cake look more like an illustration from a book) - but what to draw him on to let him stand up straight?  Helpppppp :-)

Glad you found it Mandy. Make sure you post pics when done.   :o)

Will do June - thank you (I cannot thank you and all the other wonderful cake bakers on this forum who are always willing to impart knowledge and advice - it really is like having a university at my finger tips) x

Shucks Mandy - only just seen this post.  How did the pastillage work out for you?  It's exactly what I would have recommended for what you wanted to do.  I did a cut out silhouette recently and I really wish I had made the effort to use pastillage as the gum paste just wasn't really strong enough to stand up and I had to make a really grotty support at the back for it..........

And yes, - corn starch is definitely cornflour............

My friend cancelled a bit before the time - so I have not yet needed to make this stand up character but at least now I too know that pastillage would be the thing to use - happy days indeed :-)

btw - don't know about where you are, but over here, you can buy pastillage powder all ready to mix up.

Ooooohhhh Katy, am in sunny south africa and not sure if it is available here in that form - but I do have a friend who sends me stuff from time to time from your fabulous Squires Kitchen - so I will certainly add that to my next order :-)
