Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

My grandson is an aspiring actor who's presently studying theater and had played the main character in most of his plays. He's birthday is fast approaching (he'll be 22!). I would like to surprise him w/a cake but don't want to create anything fancy as I don't like to work on cakes during summer time. Any ideas? I would appreciate all of them!!!!!

Thanks soo much!
P.S. The theme of his b'day party is ...... NEON lights!!!!!! Hellloooo.....

How about a comedy/tragedy theme

or a marqee cake

I was just going to suggest the same thin as Sherry... the comedy/tragedy themed masks, or somehow incorporate a stage with curtains. I would do maybe a two-tierd cake, both tiers covered in black fondant and all around the bottom tier I would use a light wood color to go up half way (like the stage) with some spot lights pointing from the bottom up and the top tier would have the red/wine colored velvet curtains going around with the comedy/tragedy masks in the middle of each opened curtain. At the very top of your cake, maybe a few roses (with stems) and possible gold stars attached to wires poking from the cake. I hope that wasn't too fancy! LOL! Or a simple buttercream cake with a frozen buttercream transfer image in the middle. Sherry also attached some great visuals!!! Good luck! I cannot wait to see! :-)
I just noticed the NEON lights statement! LOL! I would use NEON lights to make things interesting instead of the other colors I suggested, but still kind of in that direction.

Thank you girls! Now I have an idea of where to start, I think I'll start with the masks asap! :0)
Here is another idea and of course I do not have a picture to show.
How about an Oscar that is drawn out on the top of the cake with Golden stars on the side of the cake? Or the walk of fame with the STARS and place his name and birthday number 22. That should be simple. Have fun and please post when it is completed. Loved to see what you finally did end up doing.
Love it Sher!!!
