Hey Mandy
I would use royal icing as that would be easier to achieve the pitch black look of the spirals. I'd pipe directly onto the cake! Good luck :))))
Hey Mandy
I agree, the royal icing would be the easier option.
It is possible to use fondant but then you need to find the correct scroll cutters.
I've tried piping with chocolate, the piping tube clogs every few mins. (see attached picture)
Good Luck!!!
Happy Baking :-)
Hi Mandy, I agree with Carlette in using Royal icing, you could also see if you can get a stencil with a similar design - it will make it easier to transfer the image onto the cake....
thanks gals @ Carissa - that chocolate cake looks yummmmmyyyy and I will be doing some extensive practicing tonight with royal icing - thank you so very much :-)
Carissa that looks yummy! Great idea!
Natasha, if Mandy used a stencil, would it not be easier to use buttercream over the stencil instead of royal icing?
Carlette, I've found the Royal Icing to work much better. I used a palette knife, to gently spread the icing from the bottom to the top of the stencil. The trick is to ensure that no icing goes underneath the stencil - but if you have a steady hand - then I'm sure you can do it freehand.
ahhh I see what you mean! :)
thank you again gals - you all sound like fundi's and I will do my best to not disappoint with the final outcome :-)
hahah I don't think of myself as a fundi! more of a trial and error kinda gal! :) Good luck Mandy!
