Hi! I am addicted
I retired in May. I retired young but sitting in a chair all day was beginning to kill me. So my husband and I decided to have me not work and adopt a healthier lifestyle. I took a cake decorating class in July and now I am totally addicted to decorating cakes and looking at decorated cakes and getting tips on decorating. I have to be careful not to spend too much time at my computer or retiring early won't have been worth the effort. I also have to stay away from actually eating the cakes I decorate. I have spent a small fortune on supplies and if I am not careful I will have to go back to work to support my new hobby. I am getting pretty close to having pretty much everything I need. I am a sucker for gadgets though.

Hi Dianne, I see you are from Omaha, but have not posted anything since 2010. I hope you are still doing cakes since you retired. I live over in Council Bluffs and in the last year have gone hog wild decorating. I'm trying to learn as many techniques as possible.....it's on my 'bucket list' of things to do before it's too late. lol Hope to see you back and still making cakes.

Just read your story and wish you the best of luck in your retirement and new hobby! You WILL get hooked!!! This is the best sight for sharing and learning. I am amazed at how generous everyone is... Like you I took some classes, spent $$$ on tools and supplies, even bought a 7 draw rubbermade rolling cabinet plus a few other storage boxes to house all my new toys!!! I love creating special cakes for friends and family and hope someday to start making some real money...if nothing else, just to cover my supplies and little of my time..The rest I do for my own satisfaction.... Have fun and enjoy!

Hi Dianne, its good u took up a hobby after retirement. Infact I learnt cake decorating so that I would be able to keep busy when I retire, but I am still working & making cakes. Hope I will be able to continue making cake when I retire. I know Cake deco is a very addicting hobby & all gadgets are expensive, but I guess if at the end of the day it gives you a satisfication that you have done something worthwile........its worth it........good luck
