Hi Gary, your cakes are really amazing, the fabric style flowers are really impressive. I'm quite new to cake decorating so I'm just getting to grips with sugar flowers which I really enjoy and am keen to learn more, so If you have a book or are doing any teaching in London, can you post details please?.. Thanks :-)

Your fabric style flowers are incredible! Do you have a book detailing how they're made? I've never seen anything like them.

Thanks Theresa - I have lost touch a bit with what is going on in the big wide cakey world - so thought this would be a great way to learn and perhaps share some tips!

A bit about me - My career has largely been in book publishing (marketing and PR). I first developed an interest in sugarcraft in the early 1990s when I worked for Merehurst, who at the time had built up a worldwide reputation as the leading publisher of cake decorating books.

Invigorated by this exciting edible art medium I set up Iced Delights, invented the new technique of fabric effects in sugar, published my own book and gave demonstrations and classes all over the UK and the USA. for about 10 years. Later I launched and was Editor of the first ever mass-market cake decorating magazine. I also produced Iced and Easy, a beginners cake book and provided display pieces for exhibitions of edible art called ‘A Taste of Art’.

After another period in publishing I reformed Iced Delights in 1999 and became one of the top 10 wedding cake makers in London. Four years ago left London for a quieter life in the Cotswolds and I am now having more fun with cakes again under the new name of Oh So Different Cakes, but primarily teaching, magazine projects and having fun.

My websites at www.garychapman.biz and www.ohsodifferentcakes.biz outline all my activities and feature some of my old and more recent work.
