Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Well at last hubby went out for a few hours on Saturday and I have managed to get the wine bottle for his birthday cake started. A bit stressful, as I didn't know how long he was going to be and felt rushed throughout the whole process! So maybe not as good as it could have been with more time, but it will have to do. Shaped it over a wine bottle on Saturday with green coloured gumpaste, then left it to dry till last night. After he had gone to bed last night, I dusted it over with Forest Green dust mixed with a little rainbow lustre. Painted gold ring and red for foil at the top. Cork is gumpaste painted chestnut brown gel. All I've got to do now is - make the cake, cover that, paint the label, spray bottle with edible lacquer etc etc - no pressure.

omg have there been some dramas with this!  He went out the other day and I thought he was going to be gone a while, so got all my stuff out to do more.  Halfway through, he came back - with everything still on the dining table!  So I quickly shoved it back in the cupboard, but didn't notice that the bottle (which was now off the real bottle), was resting across the box it was in.  So when I next got it out, I discovered that one side had sagged and been cut into by the box.  So I gently put it back on the real bottle and painted a bit of edible glue over the crack.  It seems to have worked, so at 1.00am this morning, I finally managed to get the damn bottle finished!  Label is a bit wonky, but I have done the best I can with the constraints put upon me.  My brother in the New Forest has come up trumps and responded to my request to take hubby off my hands for a couple of days next week.  So, weather permitting, they are going on a motorbiking trip on Monday till Wednesday.  Yippee, I will be able to get the cake cooked and decorated while he's gone!
