i am so much happier with my results this time. My tylose finally arrived and I mixed it with some fondant, bought myself a set of modelling tools and followed some instructions in a book I have. Linda, if you read this, I know why you hate making flowers - so stressful! But I am so happy with this result and am now inspired to keep going and get better.

Thanks Shaira - I've been doing a lot of practise on flowers since this, and think I am finally getting to grips with the art of it. It so helps having the right tools too.
pretty flower!
Thanks Gail - that all sounds like the right way to go about it. At the moment I am using up pieces of leftover fondant so am mixing small amounts at a time. Good idea to make several small pieces of different colours.
Linda - the stress is worth when you can look at something and think - I did that! My hubby looked at it and said - wow, that looks like a real rose, you should put it on your forum (what a guy!)
Goreti - yes I am hooked. I was going to do more today, but ended up glued to the Jubilee Thames Pageant. Tomorrow, tomorrow. I have seen Edna de la Cruz, yes she is so good.
Oh yeah, you are hooked Katy. Welcome to the club. It looks really good. Love the coloring of the leaves. This is for both you & Linda, have you guys checked out Edna De la Cruz' website? I love her method of doing roses. I was totally unhappy with the first ones I did until I tried her way. I like to try different ways of doing things.
go linda go
Katy, this turned out very nice! I know that stress!! I don't NEED more stress in my life...I need less. lol I will get back to practicing again one day. I know what Gail is saying about the practice and how it takes time. Up to this point, I just haven't wanted to give it that much time and patience, but she really is right. I can't believe you came out with one this good for a first shot around! Mine looked like a huge cabbage that first go around. At this rate, by next week, you will have a ton of them done all looking beautiful!! All of you inspire me!
it takes time , i am still learning, ea time you make it you'l know ,but just make a very sm amount at a time . i make mmf , than make all colors ! and than make a little bit of ea color into gumpaste with the tylose , so if i need more i always have the same color fondant to mix with the tylose , to match it,
oh , now you know , iv done that to , just add more fondant to it or a sprinkle of water
Thanks Gail. And thanks for your advice on the proportion of tylose to fondant. I think I may have overdone the tylose just a bit as some of the icing was a bit 'crumbly' while I was working with it?
awesome ! yes keep going ; )
