First time making a Petal Effect Cake. Made for my son's girlfriend. Kept the green & red theme for her December birthday. Flower is a gumpaste fantasy flower with a button middle to match the shoe.

Took awhile to get this pic posted. Just been so darn busy cleaning up from Christmas & spending time with my daughter.
You use a round tip, squeeze out a dot, take your pallete knife and smear away part of the icing. Another dot close to the one you just piped, drag again.... and so on and so on. Time consuming, but pretty easy. Was disappointed in my icing... too fluffy. Beat too long and incorporated too much air. Left little holes and it wasn't a "sturdy" icing for piping. But all in all for a 1st time, not bad. Would use a bigger round tip next time. Icing tasted fab. Made two batches. One with pina colada flavor, one with a new carribean flavor I found at my grocery store. A mixture of vanilla, cherry, lemon & orange..... yum yum :o)
Ahh - fun cake June. I like your piping round the sides - what do you do that with?
