Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

My first in a year, I was glad to get back to it. Specially with this cake because it is a decorator's dream - you WANT the fondant to ripple and crack, you WANT it to look messy, you can make mistakes carving - it is an erupting volcano! The cake is chocolate with chocolate buttercream and raspberry fillings. The outside is chocolate buttercream and chocolate fondant, which was dusted with black. I made "lava rocks" around the bottom with fondant and black dust. Finally, I drizzled the whole thing with ganache and raspberry filling. The birthday girl loved it!

Great looking cake!  It reminds of of First Encounters of the third kind film.

Thanks, June.  I think it was a good cake to start new with and is giving me confidence to do more precision stuff again!
