Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This cake was for a first birthday. The birthday child's nickname is Turtle. I took a wooden oval plaque I bought at a craft store. I screwed on PVC pipe with joints to make the legs and neck. I baked 3 oval cakes ( slightly smaller than the board) to place on board and rounded off the top to give the curve of the shell. I covered cake with green fondant and wrapped it under the Board to give the edge of the shell a more pronounced look. I made lines with a cake tool, then used yellow, brown, and black airbrush to give it some dimension. The legs, head, and tail are fondant which I covered the PVC pipe with. To give it that wrinkled skin look I took a crumpled piece of foil and pressed it into the fondant. I used scissors to cut the opening for the mouth and the hat is an ice cream cone covered in fondant with grass tip butter cream for the fringe and pom pom.
