Wow! Thank you so much! There are just a myriad of cakes that this inspires! Breath taking!
Thank you Holly , It's 2x 8 inch sponges , one on an 8 inch board , 4 wooden dowels and a bit of modelling paste !! Well actually fondant with gum tragacanth , you may know it as tylow powder !! Cover both sponges with fondant , then i put the dowels on into the edges of the bottom one and using the modelling paste stuck a big enough piece to each dowel , big enough to hold its own weight so as not to fall or slip ! Then added more as it started to dry and hold up , once you have covered the back and sides using just fondant put a thin layer over this to put the bark effect in it , you can get a lot of this straight into the modelling paste . When your happy , and the hole is right for you , you could put a thin layer inside ,upto you , if it looks ok then don't worry . Sorry forgot the lights !! They are LEDs 5mm , 5 volt run off two AA batteries ( only 3 volts ) the ones in this cake are colour change ones , you run the wires and fit the LEDs before you start with the model paste . The batteries and switch is underneath , if you raise the board with 25mm square beading or mdf round the edge the batteries and switch can easily be fitted , do this before you put your cake on the bottom board !!! Important that bit .
I use an airbrush to colour a lot of my cakes or paint the colouring on , depends on the texture your after . then decorate as you fancy !!
The best part of this cake is you don't have to worry about any of it being perfect or smooth , the rougher the better !!
Hope that's enough for you , Sorry it's long winded Martin x
This is a beautiful cake! Can you share more about it? Would LOVE to hear! Just gorgeous!
