Lesley's birthday cake, inspired by a birthday card Mick gave me a couple of years ago. It is a print by fashion artist Renee Gruau and it struck me as ideal! Cake is syrup Vic Sponge 3 layered with apricot conserve and a touch of vanilla buttercream. Fashionista lady is 2D, some fondant accents and some painted. Cameo from a mould and my first go at the pleating effect. I am so happy with this cake, think it may be my best work yet!

You'll breeze it Becky - your ability is way beyond mine, so it will be dead easy for you.
The next cake I do for practice - I'm doing the pleats. Doesn't sound to bad!!
Thanks Becky! No, it's not hard at all, because it's a cheat. It isn't really pleating at all! You just take strips of fondant, cut to the height of your cake and overlap them. Then I smoothed the edges over with my finger, so you couldn't see a straight line where it was cut. Then smooth the single layer into the cake. Remember to start at the back as you will have an double overlap there with your first and last piece. Hope that makes sense....
Thank you Luz x
Gorgeous Katy, lovely job!
, me to , I do love it !
Thanks Gail - no worries, I was happy with it anyway!
aw ! sorry Katy ! , it is an awesome cake !
Thank you Bonnie, so much for your lovely words! Even my husband was enthusiastic about this one. Sadly, I'm not so sure about Lesley. She had said to me, almost in passing, please don't worry about a cake or anything. But we and the grandchildren decided that it would be all wrong to let their Mum's birthday go without a cake from me, as I always do the family celebration cakes. I think she was a bit annoyed, so I have been left with a bit of a sorry taste in my mouth. Never mind, I won't do it again...
