ok , I baked my cakes , now to figure out what to do with it , and yes since its for us to eat , my famous key lime , cake with fresh limes , juiced , and added instead of water or milk , YUMMY

Exactly Linda - too much moisture I would expect to dissolve the royal

I was thinking the same thing, Katy. A collar is pretty heavy all in itself and I would be concerned that the grease factor would break down the royal icing and make it crack or break in two.

thank you Katy , I want to play with piping and royal , just trying to figure out the way to go without wasting to much , and the time , ! I at the least want something coming out ok  with my piping , lol !

I'd be doubtful about an r.i. collar holding up on buttercream.  My Mum always did them on a royal base. These days, of course, fondant too.
