Fabulous at Fifty!
My stepdaughter's 50th birthday cake for last night's family dinner, held at the same hotel where my husband and I had our wedding reception 31 years ago! I think this is the most adventurous I have ever been in terms of techniques - all thanks to CWB members giving me the ideas, help and encouragement to go for it. There are imperfections, but overall, I was happy with the result. First time for so many things - lace moulds, quilting effect, embossing, pillars, sugar flower spray etc.

That is how it should be. It came as a shock to me when I tried to think about my birthday cakes and realized I never had one, but I can remember my sisters birthday parties, Being the eldest daughter and a January child my mom always said the schools started and there is no money.

My Mom always made a homemade cake of our choice & a special dinner. Never really had a "party", but always dinner of choice & cake. Made cakes for my children too . 2 of them when they were small. 1 for the kiddie party, 1 for the family party.

Maybe that is why my kids also always had their birthdays celebrated BIG time! And my two grandchildren really appreciate their granny.

Ah thanks Magdalena. It was the same in this family until I joined it (over 30 years ago now). No-one had ever had a birthday cake especially made for them, now everyone, but everyone does. It was something my Mum always did for all us kids all our lives and I wanted it to me the same for them. Lucky us.
