OH WITH THE PIPING YOU DO LINDA i know you can master it ! i so want to pipe , lol , even a little i would be happy ! i do all kind of flowers gumpaste and fondant , why can't i pipe ; (( , a basic piping boards and trim i can do,  but i want to do your pretty piping works like yours & Rima's ,Iris and allyou pipers ! , its funny how much i can and cant do , the more of piping i see the more i want to do it , my buttercream came out so nice and neat  tho !!, smooth !& even !!  that was a first lol ,

Google oriental string work tutorial. There are several tutes out there on that technique. I doubt that I am going to try it very soon.

Heck, I didn't make that cake, Gail! I would so like to do this technique one day so I saved the photo to my computer! lol! Are you crazy, woman?? I don't know that I could ever do something like that! But knowing you, and how persistent you are....I can definitely see you one day doing it. I have seen a girl I know do it. Of course, it was done on a dummy cake and when she did those free standing strings, she just flipped her cake upside down and did them. I don't know that you could do that on real cake.

one thing i found is , you need to let it dry well b4 you move it lol , good thing it was a pklay cake .; )

no they are lg cake deco balls !in pearl silver ! but like you say gumballs would also work , i have a few pks of them but the only pretty ones are purple, lol

You never cease to amaze me, Gail! Your tenacity always pays off, and this cake shows it. I expect by next week you will have cakes with the oriental string work done to perfection.
