Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This is another order that I just finished last weekend and was NOT my design. The client for this cake also gave me a picture that she wanted done for her son's groom cake. It's a 14" square marble cake split into 4 layers and filled with chocolate mousse and covered in butter cream icing. My poor attempts at making Spiderman out of fondant/gum paste mix is pretty pathetic. His head was supposed to be off the cake along with his upper torso, and a few days before the wedding, it rained and the extra moisture in the air caused poor Spidey to fall down some. In the picture it is hard to make out the city scape skyline as the border, but that is what it is. There were white windows painted on each building. Thanks for looking.

Pathetic? Poor attempt?!!! Are you kidding?!  I think you did a wonderful job.  Stop being so critical of yourself.  I'm sure the customer was thrilled.

Thank you Gail...I wasn't too impressed with my efforts, to be honest with you. On one hand, I was glad it was an easy cake with all that we have been going through, but on the other hand, it's not my type of cake that I like to do. I would rather do those veggies that you made for that BBQ cake! Now that's a challenge!! =O)

Thank you, Anne and Tim. Yes, the buildings are made from fondant, although they sure do look dark in the photo...much darker than what they really were. They were actually a dark gray in the back, and lighter gray in the front, but you know lighting and how pictures can distort things.

I think it's wonderful Linda... and I think Spider Man looks GREAT!... I can see the widows on the City buildings very clear! Great seeing your work again Linda! Are the buildings fondant...?

Actually, it was a pretty easy cake to do, Katy. I'm so darn rusty though, after not doing any cakes all summer long, that I felt like a real duck out of water. I'm like Sandra....not too crazy about doing these kinds of cakes (kid cakes) because I don't become too terribly inspired with them. I so appreciate your kind words...especially after such a dry spell of no cake making. Thank you Katy, it means a lot.

Linda - I think you have totally nailed it here.  The cake is brilliant.  Spidey looks really creepy crawly and the skyline is AMAZING!  Must have taken ages to do all this.
