I have seen it done with royal icing in place of the stamens and I tried that, too, but really didn't like it,

some do fall out Sandra , , lol , its not a fun stamen to make !!

I did use stamen tops and tried rolling them in color dust, then yellow cornmeal.  For some reason, the little stamens didn't want to stay in the center (pistil, I guess) shaft.  I posted a couple of photos.

thank you Sandra ! as you can see the petal started to brake ! eerrr, so I have to let them sit of put them in my dehydrator ! to make the center Sandra , cut of the tops of your stamen s , I dip mine in sanding sugars first . of different colors than stick the cut stamen in , after dry color dust them !!!
