OK, Denise, you are next!  Are you ready for this???

You're more than welcome to steal away Sandra & Katy, never thought of doing that but will certainly add it to my mental list of cake decorating "how to" tips :-)

re the pointy dots thing - I find using a small damp paintbrush just to push the tips in works great.

Denise, the hearts are my favorite part of the whole cake and I love it all.  No way could a purchased scroll be as nice as these, and the ARE, for sure, original.  Wonderful....I plan to steal :o)

Thanks Gali. Come to think of it, I think Wilton makes a set of scroll markers that includes a heart one. Darn, & I thought I had come up w/something original...lol

Thanks Bonnie. That's not a plaque on top. I think it's called a PME frill cutter I used to mark the top of the cake. I only outlined it at 1st b/c the little bd character was supposed to go in the center but when I tried freehanding her w/the black icing & she dIdn't come out right the top of the cake was pretty much shot so had to fill in completely w/black icing to cover it up. I'll let u in on a little secret how to get rid of the points on your dots if u don't already know. Pipe your dots & let them  dry for a bit then go back & gently push the points down & voila. The hearts, we'll I'm not sure if that's an actual technique or not. I'm sure someone's done it before.  The idea just popped in my head so I went with it.

Wow Denise!  You managed to incorporate so many differing designs here!  Is the top a plaque?  Lovely beadwork, not all full of points like mine. lol  And the shell effect for the hearts is so cute!  I have never tried the running vine type effect around the middle, but I promise myself, to try it soon.  And you used Betty's over-piping with a different color on the shell bottom too.

Such a jolly good 'Betty' cake!  Yes, it is a 'Betty' cake.  Not all of her's have flowers!
