Yummy white cake with buttercream frosting served with peppermint ice cream. There were 20 snowflakes falling all around the cake. The snowflakes were piped with royal icing and dusted with sanding sugar and sugar crystals. I used silver petal dust to mimic a chilly wind all around the tiers. I also piped small dots and painted some of them silver to add some sparkle to the sides of the cake.

Sherri - I had exactly the same problem when I made my Christmas cake this year.  I managed to break more than half of them.  They really are delicate little suckers!

Thank you, ladies, for your kind comments.  I loved doing this cake!  I actually made about twice as many snowflakes but they were so delicate I lost more than I would have liked due to breakage.  Lesson learned!

Your snowflakes are really good.  You really have somehow managed to get a 'chilly' feeling to the cake!
