This poor cake lost almost all of it's icing while in transit. It looks nothing like it originally looked when I first made it. It was for my niece's wedding, and the weather was unbearably hat that summer, not to mention that the destination was 40 minutes away, on a highway that was being resurfaced. With every bump that happened every 4 or 5 seconds, the icing kept sliding down the sides of the cake. It didn't help that our van air-conditioning quit while in the process of delivery. Where the daisy's are, it is actually covering huge areas where the icing completely slid off. What a mess! Thank God I did take my repair kit with me, but I didn't have nearly enough time to get it all done before the actual ceremony. On top of that, once I had the cake done at home, my husband woke me up at around 5 in the morning-gently- and told me that he didn't want me to panic, but the cake had tilted so much that it looked like it was going to be on the floor in a few minutes. I had to take it all apart and redo my structure inside. Awful, awful, awful experience!!

lol! My luck, just pretending to trip would probably turn into a 'real' trip and I would lose the whole cake!

I couldn't have said it better!  I hold my breath the whole way there and the entire time until it is all in place & ready.  I'm always amazed at how many people almost knock into me!  I almost always hear someone say "don't drop the cake."  They laugh as though it's funny...I just want to hit them!  I one time pretended that I was tripping as a response!

Laney, I know the bottom tier was filled with a cooked flour icing but now I cannot remember whether I had the same icing on that tier or not. If I remember right, I think it was all Crisco on the outside. But it was the heat that summer that did me in. Not to mention the 40 minute drive with bump, bump, bump every 4 seconds or so. I had an alternate route I could have gone, but it was all steep hills and twists and turns. I should have checked out in advance about the Interstate being all torn up. I had no idea that it was going to be a torn up mess when my husband and I started out on the road. Now, we try to do a dry run the day before delivery. Getting the cake to the destination can be equally as stressful as making it. Actually I think it is worse. While making the cake, you can get in the 'zone' and really enjoy putting it all together. Driving is just driving and pretty stressful at that with a cake.

Oh I feel you.  The weather here, in South Carolina, is unbearable.  Did you use true (also known as all butter) buttercream?  I refuse to use it in any month other than January!  I also use dry ice during transport.  We just never know what the traffic will throw at us and the humidity and heat can ruin any cake.

Thank goodness you were able to rescue it as well as you did!

Oh, you two must have looked at the cake before I wrote my caption. It is tolerable looking to say the least at the end result, but it was truly a disaster cake.

What's so disastrous with this Linda? I think your swags and the borders did not hold their shape well..
