Fashionistas...Have your bag and eat it too!!

This is my first purse cake. I made it using six layers of vanilla pound cake, mocha buttercream filling and Swiss buttercream frosting under the fondant layer. The Alligator skin was made using a texture impression sheet which I then outlined in some places with my veining tool before covering the cake. The hardware (grommets, buckles and zipper) was made of a gumpaste/fondant mixture and brushed with gold luster dust. I used water to stick the embellishments on the cake and royal icing for some of the larger pieces. My greatest source of pride was that so many people thought it was real...they walked right by looking for the cake...even better was the fact that it was eaten so quickly and people asked for my card...I suppose I should print some because this was so much fun to make!
