The dragon is made of clay because the bride and groom wanted to keep the figures.

Yes it is, Katy, no matter how weird!  He was in the dining room when Mike and I delivered the cake and kept bringing people over to see "his" dragon.  I guess the phoenix belonged to the bride :o)

What a fantastic compliment for you Sandra - he takes it with him wherever he goes.  Cool

Thank you Becky!  They were thrilled and I was so relieved because they really had no idea what they wanted beyond a dragon and a phoenix.  The Chinese writing is their names.  A mutual friend told me the groom has the dragon mounted on the dashboard of his truck - lol!  Can you imagine???

I can't even imagine doing this.  The dragon is amazing.  The details on it are perfect.  I'm sure these people must have been very happy with this cake!

I wish I could be more help.  The Coppertone girl and her dog are the first pieces I ever documented, but I probably have a few progress pis of the dragons, if you would like to see them.

I am going to have to practice. Sometimes I find clay sculpting videos. Generally I use a different edible medium of course. :) Going to give it a go. Probably a few times until I get it right. Thank you.

Thanks, Laura!  This one was really pretty easy.  I started out with a long piece of sturdy wire (the length I wanted the body), covered it with clay (which I hated!  Modeling chocolate is much more workable), let it set up a bit, then added details.  I did the head first.

Exceptional. My son will be turning 14 in October. I have just began researching how to make a dragon cake for him. This is PHENOMENAL

Thanks, Betty!  Since he was on a wedding cake, I didn't want him to look too fierce, but not too sweet either :o)
