Paper-Clay Rose : Close up view

Going to a 60th birthday of a dear dear friend, who use to be my patient. Only friend I kept from my home nursing days. She has a severe form of MS, and she is my hero as she has never complained, or said “why me”. She has accepted her situation with grace. She is now in a electric wheelchair, losing some of her mobility in her hands…amongst other losses. She loves roses. I wanted something she could keep, look at and enjoy and not deteriorate like gumpaste with exposure to sun, heat, etc. I have had this medium Clay Craft clay for some time. It’s best described as like a fancified paper mâché. Slightly damp, but not wet. So googled, used You Tube to find instructions on use and flower making. It’s like nothing I have ever used before. I LOVE it!!! So easy to manipulate..fast drying time… I’ve already made this rose, plus others…still playing to see what other flowers I can fashion. I’m sure my friend is going to love it.

Comment by June Kowalczyk on March 10, 2014 at 4:49pm: Thanks Gail...the colour was the colour of the clay. When it was dry..I lightly embellished with red food colouring & alcohol. Then brushed with crushed red & orange artists chalk.
Lots of work Gail moving in!!! But you'll be glad when your all settled.

It's call Clay Craft Gail. Comes from Japan...but sold out of Hawaii. Only place in Canada that sells it is Icing inspirations. Don't know in your neck of the woods. There's also yuyi clay. But I checked there website. Not much choice I could see...just white clay & cutters. Michael's sells a Martha Stewart soft clay kit. I've seen the YouTube video on the product, and it looks virtually like Clay Craft. You don't use much....goes a long, long way.... :o)
