Good morning Linda,
I have only been making them a short while. Afraid I put
it out to the public without doing any testing, I was that excited that it
worked. All that was, of course, before I was given several sites that were
also working with gelatin, which I re-posted.
I know that it melts for reuse. I assume that it will dissolve in water. I assume that it will break down over time, how much time, I do not know. It will be up to the user to determine when it is no longer viable as a working mold.
So it is a good thing that it is so cheap & easy to use. Perfect for one time use items. Just make a mold, use it, re-melt the mixture, and make another mold. Sorry I could not give a better answer to your question.
Bonnie, does the actual mold have a long shelf like? Does it seem to break down any over time?

Also remember to place item facing up, to put the design in the mold when pouring mixture over it. Also, putting it in the fridge for half an hour will speed curing time. To remove, put finger near edge, pull toward center to detach from wall, and lift out.

'Food Grade Mold' Recipe
Prepare mold by securely attaching item to bottom of container. Make enough mix to completely cover chosen item, keeping the container as close in size to the item as possible. Most clear plastic cookware, disposable tubs, etc..., work here. May spray item & inside of container before adding mold mixture.
2. Mix the water & the gelatin. Start mixing immediately & keep mixing until all the water & the gelatin is thoroughly mixed together. DON'T STOP mixing or it will separate & congeal in layers. When ready, the mess should be consistent in quality.
3. Heat in microwave, for 20 sec. intervals, & stir until the gelatin is melted and free from lumps.
4. Add the warmed glycerin (and glucose if desired) and stir until blended.
5. Add the coconut oil, and stir until thoroughly blended. It is now ready to use, & should be used while warm.
As for the 'glucose', try it both ways to see which one you prefer.
