Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Wedding Shower cake for a couple getting married in Mexico. Design sketch of cake with each element to be included (other than colour) was sent to me by the groom-to-be's sister who is also a cake decorator but lives in North Carolina so she could not make the cake herself. This is my interpretation of what she wanted on the cake.

All elements are handshaped from fondant. The maracas are painted with gel colour mixed with vodka. The chilies were sprayed with edible glaze. I handcut the "salsa" from fondant then dribbled corn syrup on top that was mixed with some red gel colour. The mexican blanket is made by cutting strips of different coloured fondant and laying them on another whole sheet of fondant. The chips are just triangle shaped fondant that I laid out on top of crumpled aluminum foil. I handpainted some soft brown dots to mimic the texture of real tortilla chips.

Close up photos are available in this photo's Album.
