Comment by Diane Curtis on May 14, 2012 at 10:27am: Danielle, first of all, NEVER be "embarrassed" to tell a client a price for your HARD work and talent. If they decline, so be it. I know it's hard, because we want the cake jobs so we can make a living. But there are many clients that WILL be willing (and able) to pay for it. Give it some time and be realistic with your pricing. Check out your competition and see what they are charging so you can be in the same "ballpark" (providing you have the same experience and know-how). But, as I'm sure you know, there are many other factors that you need to calculate into your pricing when your in biz (supplies, tools, shop rent, insurance, electricity, advertising, licensing, gas for deliveries etc etc) Good luck to you!!

I know the cake shows on TV have clients willing to pay thousands of dollars for a cake but we get embarrassed asking for a few hundred.
