This is my first 3 tier cake, wedding cake and topsy turvy cake!
Bottom tier is a rich fruit cake with marzipan, middle tier is madeira with a hint of lemon with buttercream and strawberry jam, top tier is chocolate with buttercream.
The bride requested a topsy turvy cake, which I was a little nervous attempting but I was fine following instructions. It is structurally sound, with a well cut into the top of the base and middle cakes then covered with marzipan or buttercream and iced. Dowels are added and cake is covered with fondant icing and the next cake is placed into the well, so the base of each cake is flat. Only the tops are at an angle.
It is decorated with diamond shapes on the bottom tier, circles on the middle tier and stripes on the top tier to contrast with each other. The figures are based on the actual bride and groom and their 2 children, which I made myself using fondant.
