Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This was my daughter's wedding cake. Her wedding was a vintage theme and she decided on her design about a week before the wedding! I had to scramble to get it right but she was thrilled with it. I tinted Satin Ice fondant to a very soft pink. For the piping I just did string work. The beads were each piped using graduating sizes of tips. I had to travel almost 4 hours to do this cake and I was working in her mother in laws beautiful kitchen. She wanted real flowers on the cake so we used the same flowers that she had in her boquet and in the girls boquets. Hope you all enjoy it!

Thank You Katy!  I used to do string work a ton years ago but had not done any for a long time.... when she told me what she wanted I kind of was in a panic.  I got out my dummy cakes and practiced a lot for a few days then it came right back to me.  Kind of like riding a horse... you just get back in the saddle and go for it! ;-).  It went with her vintage theme very well.  Thanks for the likes ladies!

Beautiful work.  Like the expression ' I just did string work'.  Makes it sound so quick and easy haha!

Sometimes it is too nice... I am always turning down people... I have a couple designers that I send them to though!  Share the love!

Ahhhh
Here where I live Jeri, there are very strict guidelines by our health dept to be in the Cake business. You need a extra kitchen WITH a separate 3rd sink designated for your decorating needs. On & on & on. They have been on a big crack down on illegal home based business's. if I do anything at all, I stay under the radar. Absolutely NO advertising. Couldn't afford to hang up a shingle... too $$$... and now retired... No interest in doing so. Just having fun. Nice to have a built in clientele...... :o)

A lot of the cakes I do now... are for my former softball players!  And working as a secretary at the school I have an "in" with a lot of my clients!

June, I did take off several years only doing a few cakes here and there when our kids were growing up.  I coached softball for 25 years all the way from tball to high school varsity softball.  Those were some great years.  I did not do as many cakes during those years for sure.  After the kids were all gone from home is when I started taking on more cakes.... now that we have grandkids... I want to back off and not do as many!  I do love it but definitely ready to slow down a little!  My crazy life!
