This wasn't how i originally pictured the cake, but because of a blunder while piping the gold royal icing, i had to rescue the fondant. So I ended up painting it with gold gel color.

You know, that's half of what my cake designs are. I have a general idea of what I want to do then I change things on the fly to fix blunders or other sticking spots I hadn't thought of. You get better at thinking up ways of hiding it as you go along, LOL and sometimes your cake turns out even better for it.

This is a fine first time:0) Keep going

Sorry Shaira it took so long for me to respond. Had to make a vegan cake & icing to take to my daughters tomorrow. I just sat down!! Your cake looks fine. And NO ONE will know you didn't plan it this way. And Goreti is right, sometimes our "blunders" take us to plan "B", but it all works out. It is a lovely cake. Good job.

yes you need to let it warm , the cold will do that to fondant , and buttercream , it melts due to the cold , you need to bring it to room temp for both ! after the buttercream crust than put your fondant on , dont over do your crumb coat less is more

thank you gail! your words of encouragement mean a lot to me. :) i didn't have enough time to use letter cutters. hehe i have a question though. my fondant kinda bulged. i took the cake out of the ref, then iced it with royal icing. i didn't let it crust and put the fondant on. smoothed it well with a smoother. but after a while, there was kind of a bulge. was it because the cake was still cold when i placed the fondant and i didn't let the royal icing crust?

Sometimes blunders make for the best cakes.  I think it looks wonderful.  The way you painted added to the overall look of the cake.  Great job.
