I'm telling you, Cheryl, listen to these ladies....piping is a lost art to the younger generation. You truly do have the expert skills, that's for sure. I think fondant is beautiful on a cake, but I am all about taste and if it doesn't taste good and only looks good, then what's the point? then you might as well take a pic and throw the cake away. It's just my opinion, but it seems to me that rather than 'lock' moisture into a cake with fondant, it seems to draw all the moisture out of a cake leaving it dry. Bring on the butter cream! That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I have only taken a couple of courses. #1 reason is that I can't afford the classes. Not on a pension. So I ck this site, CC, the web, YouTube, etc. Whatever you want to learn, you can usually find the info for free.

That is so cool to hear ,I entered a cake competition for the heck of it in Feb. in Austin, and won 3rd place in novelity against all fondant entranies, and was told by a judge that Buttercream is a lost art,to keep up the work and come back again next year and enter again..I liked the win but the competation isn't my thing.I have never had a class in any of the cake mediums, just learn as I go,somwtimes there are lotzof cakes and sometimes there are none to do.Right now it's tredy...cakes/tv and such,so I get a lot of cakes to play with.HA!

Hey, haven't you heard Cheryl.....old school seems to be coming back in style!! There seems to be a revival of "piping" methods . Craftsy has a online course to teach piping skills to the new generation.

Thanks.....I keep trying  each cake to challege myself  and do a better job this time.Especially since they go on the net now,I use to take a pic, later it ended in a box.I have lots of floral and cake, costumes, parade floats pics all packed away in the barn,If I could locate them .I'd scann a few for the net, because I use to do alot more wedding things than I do now, course they would be old school type.

Well with the number of cakes you do Cheryl, my eyes would be permanently bugged out!! I don't see the mistakes at all.
