Made for my sons surprise 30th birthday party tonight. So hard making a cake when someone is living in your house!!! Constantly trooping upstairs to hide in my bedroom closet!!! Would have managed this without my hubby’s help. Certainly was a learning experience that’s for sure. Thanks to Nancy on here for her skate cake and advice she gave me. Don’t think I’ll make one again for a long time!!
Cake is a orange Creamsicle with orange icing. No fondant covering…as my son doesn’t care for it….another challenge as I’m not the best bc smoother. Rather than putting skate on top of cake, chose to put on a pond /rink. Son played at a pond near our house constantly…so thought he would appreciate the gesture. Added fondant snowballs & crushed fondant on top and sides for snow. Would have made a hockey stick & puck….but ran out of time. I hope my son gets a kick out of this…. : o)

Thanks Gail.
Yes Katy...had migraines the week I should have been working on the cake...so considering how late I started..I'm pretty happy. You know it's funny when your stressed your brain shuts off. When I put the skate on the board, of course, the 2 main skate laces broke. I just re-glued & held for a min. Lo & behold, what do I find in my closet??? You guessed it..3 pairs of xtra laces in a zip lock bag....just in case...duh!! If I had more time, and Chris wasn't around, would have used the new laces....oh well..you pretty much have to stick your face right into the cake and stare before at the skate to see the mistake.... :o)

Of course Chris will be chuffed to bits.  I know you had initial problems, so you've done wonderfully under pressure xx

Great job June!  Glad you managed to find someone to help you with the ice skate - sooner you than me.  And I know what it's like having the recipient in the house - they're constantly where you don't want them to be!  Happy Birthday Chris
