gosh it is trial and error with the models ,i have only made wedding cakes for the family over the years ,which probably only amounts to about nine lol but i did enjoy doing them and they were fruit and you could take time doing them, so sponge cakes were a whole new experience as your working within 2-3days ,as i'm self taught every cake is a challenge,so this modeling malarky was a totally new to me,i have found a lady on the web called lorraine mackay or aine2 she has some tuturials on you tube they are great, so i have tried to mimic her,she also has some you can download,my first ones were terrible but practice !practice!practice and they are improving slowly good luck with the wedding cakes  idea's,i have three ordered for summer and i am worried already if they will work ,in the heat lol!!my nerves will be shot by the time i'm finished xx

YOu are SO right, it does tend to take over life and kitchen! And all the supplies and tools... I need to get an extra pantry to store everything! I think you are very artistic and creative! I love your cakes! You're really good at making those figures, too! Those twins are adorable. I made some puppy figures from gum paste once and they came out OK but ever since then every time I try to make any other figures other than puppies, they just don't work out and I get frustrated, lol. I've had a lot of fun with the sculpted cakes but didn't know anything about making and decorating non-sculpted cakes so I've been taking classes at a local cake shop. I didn't know if I would enjoy decorating non-sculpted cakes but I'm loving that too. I think I would like making wedding cakes but I haven't made one yet so I have no idea if I would. I've been antsy to try making one just to see what it's like, it's just finding the time to do it that is the problem!

Hi Mary, thank you!! I've been an artist all my life, studied computer animation for a while in college, and have worked as a graphic designer for about 11 years. :) I'm really loving this new medium of cake, icing, fondant, rice cereal treats, modeling chocolate, etc. I love to cook and do so all the time for family and friends and until last August had never thought of doing anything like this. I'm so glad that I started!
