Hellboy Cake

This is the Hellboy cake I made for the Showcake category for That Takes The Cake 2011 in Austin, TX. I'm a beginner with no work cake experience and have only been making cakes since August of 2010 and this was my first show competition entry so I was super happy to place in the top 10! I placed 8th. :) He started to come apart pretty early on, poor Hellboy! I learned so much at the show and it was so fun! Looking forward to another show coming up in 2 months.

Here he is before painting. Looks better than after painting as I hadn't learned how to use the airbrush I'd just bought yet so painted him by hand so he turned out splotchy and too shiny.

Both of his forearms and his head are rice cereal treats and the rest all Devil's Food Cake (fitting for Hellboy) and covered in homemade marshmallow fondant.
