Are you using the Old Gold dust?  If you can, try out Albert Uster's dusts sometime. They are top end and I think the saturation is better. You can order them on line and the bottles are huge. They will last for years and years. Well worth it. When you mix them with vodka and apply they look like real solid metals. On top of agar gel it's even more fabulous.
