Thank you Terry! I'm not a beer drinker either, but being married to a full blown German...well, it goes with the territory. lol The cooked icing that I used is one from an old Waldorf Astoria Red Cake recipe that I had gotten as a kid from one of my school mate's Mom. It's very easy. I'll post it below:

1 cup real butter

1 cup sugar

1 tsp. real vanilla

1 cup milk

3-4 tablespoons of flour

Mix the flour and cold milk together by shaking them in a jar. Then pour the mixture into a small pan and cook on medium heat stirring all the time until the mixture becomes thick. Put aside until it is completely cold at room temperature. Once it reaches room temp., you can them beat the butter and sugar in your mixer until it is whipped, and then add a tbsp. at a time, the cooked flour and milk mixture until it is all incorporated. Whip it up on high speed until it has soft fluffy peaks. Add the vanilla and whip it up again. Now it's ready to use. Tastes divine!!

This is amazing, I don't necessarily like beer, and I should being half German, but love the steins. I really like how you went to the trouble of adding the brat, pretzels and pickle it just complete the whole idea. I hope to be able to do something like this one day. Very impressive.

I do have one question, you mentioned cooked buttercream, I've never heard of that before, could you give me some more info about it: how is it made, and does it have a different texture?

Thanks!
Terry

Thank you Anne. That was a tough day of making cakes since my husband and grandson usually share the birthday dinner together. Trying to get this cake done, along with my grandson's R2-D2 cake done was quite a challenge, to say the least! My grandson and I were up 'til after 3:00am trying to finish his, and then I still had to clean up the mess and get the house picked up, and then start all over again in the morning setting the table and cooking their dinner! My grandson ended up doing all of the finish work on his own cake (thank God! I would never had made it).

Thank you Caran, actually that is not lettering...it is just some flowers I cut out with gum paste cutters, then painted everything with silver luster dust and vodka.

Love it...I'm very hungry and thirsty now!  ;^}  My Dad was stationed in Germany also.  He had a wonderful stein collection.  How did you execute the lettering on the lid?  It looks wonderful!

This is awesome!  My husband makes beer and his 40th birthday is coming up so I might have to borrow your idea with a few tweaks to make it my own with your blessing of course.  :)  His birthday is in Jan.
