Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

The challenge that we had for our cake club this month was to make a teacup out of some edible material. Mine is made from gum paste and then painted on the inside with gold luster dust and the outside was super pearl luster dust, and then I used food paste to paint the flowers on the outside of the cup.

Very nice! I thought about taking that class at sweet retreat in Oregon last year but didn't. I wish I had.

June, I was also going to suggest using an imprint press too, but Gail beat me to it. That way you would have an impression to follow and then all you would have to do it fill it in with petal dust that has been thinned down with vodka or food paste colors thinned down with water. One of the ladies that is in my club waited until her cup was completely dry, then went back and painted water all over her cup, inside and out, and it make it look as if it had been glazed! It dried shiny.

I was going to buy a tea cup from a Amity or Sally Ann store, and use it as a prop. Think I could manage making it......but the hand painting....no way...I am NOT that skilled.

June and Gail, thank you, and also, google teacup tutorial. Believe it or not, it is not as hard as you think. You use corn starch on the inside of your cup to lay your gum paste and fit it in, then trim the top of the cup, let it completely dry before attempting to add the handle and bottom base. The handle was the hardest. If you have some china cups at home, you can do it.
