Yep - Red sounds like Ferrari to me.  I'm guessing you're not a Formula 1 fan, like I am.  I had a lot of cake wastage too, except nothing ever goes to waste in this house, my husband will gladly eat leftovers, or I make cake pops, or put them in the freezer for next time I need to make trifle.  I felt the same as you about the size, as the nose cone of the car is so small.  The podiums are a great idea.  I made a chocolate cake as well and am going to do oblongs of those wrapped in red and white fondant to look like crash barriers (I hope!).  Good luck with it, I'll be posting mine probably on Sunday.

Oooo yours sound super mine haven't asked for a particular car so I googled till I found one I liked, it's red ?? I just hope it's big enough
big back end small front..... half the cake waisted so I am making the 1st 2nd 3rd podium to use it up & they are having cupcakes too

Oh yes - can't wait to see yours!  Mine has to be done for Sunday and still a way to go as I'm trying to create a scene around it as well.  I wanted to do a McClaren, but was told I should really do a Ferrari as that's what people think of when you talk racing car.  Sculpted and covered the cake yesterday and I have to admit, it does look a bit like it's going through a warp field or something - very wobbly surface haha.

This is my first try at leopard skin, I found a you tube clip with a larger print & made it more & smaller, took ages but I think it looks good.
I think we are making the same sort cake next. Today I am starting a formula 1 cake. First Disaster of the day baked my cake with telco own brand baking power (it sank) never known. Second one has come out ok. It will be good to see each others

Mandy this is absolutely amazing, so realistic.  How did you get that leopard effect?
