True - seems like each cake I do I always learn something for the next time around!! That's the fun in doing this :)
The top may have made you panic, but it turned out beautifully. Next time you can tackle it with confidence!
Thank you Sandra!!! I don't think the customer noticed either :) Aren't we all our worst critics?? I was panicking when I was doing the top!!
Becky, you are just too picky! I didn't even notice the girl being taller than the door, just how cute she is. You did a great job! Love it :o)
Hi Pamela - I actually carved it. I had never done a cake like this before and found a tutorial on line (I googled house cake) to figure out how to do the roof. I really struggled with the roof on this house. I was not happy at all with the area where the roof edge meets the house part. Plus, my lady was bigger than the front door (HAHAHA). I even cut off some of her legs to make her shorter and she was still Amazon Woman!!! The customer was happy with it and I learned a lot from doing this cake so I guess that was a good thing! I'm sure it will take another time or two to get it down!
I love this idea, you put a lot of work into this cake. It shows in the details. I can think of several other events this basic house could be used for such as a realtor who sells their first home, housewarming cake, it could be a cabin in the woods which could be all sorts of occasions, a beach house, and I'm sure there are others. All a person has to do is personalize each cake for the individual event. I am curious about one thing, did you carve the house or is this the Wilton cake pan which is a stand-up house?
Thank you Katy - I am definitely my own worst critic.
lol Becky - you are way too critical of yourself. This is a great job all round
cool , nice job
