Just a quickie cake for hubby and I to have a piece on my actual day. A Mary Berry American Chocolate Cake sponge recipe, torted with vanilla butter icing, covered in marzipan and chocolate ganache. Piping in Royal Icing. Decorated with a layered white and plain chocolate slab using an embossing mat and finished with sugar violets flower spray. It was absolutely delicious cake!

Well kinda like Julia Child in USA, or Madame Jehane Benoit who was  huge in my youth/teen yrs., deaseased now, Elizabeth Baird of Canadian Living Magazine & Margo Oliver here in Canada.  I still use Madame Benoit's trifle recipe. The quintessential trifle.
