Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This was a birthday cake for my neighbor and she didn't care (or even notice) that the layers had spare tires!

I use royal , b4 -- but , I don't think for a dam!

Me either, Gali.  All I had ever used RI for was flowers and piping until I read some of the posts here.  The tail feathers kept falling out of the birds and I glued them back in with RI.  It worked.

As I am learning, June!  I was finally able to get the macaws tail feathers to stay attached by stuffing them full of RI!  Thanks, again!  Great tip.

Hey ....your welcome Sandra....only learned this from my own failures, then my search for an answer. RI is grrrrreat stuff...fixes a lot of things....

BINGO!  June, you just hit the nail on the head.....ROYAL ICING dam!  Yes, I make dams, but out of the buttercream I am using.  DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO USE RI!!  I am jumping up and down because I have learned a very valuable lesson this morning!  Thank you, June!  Thank you!

Well it sounds positively yummy. I can guarantee Sandra..it was your bc between the layers oozing out. If I put in a filling... a curd, or bc + addition like chopped chocolate bars, I add a thick dam around the edge of the cake & icing of RI.
