What I use is gumpaste and fondant, most of the time I only use fondant, but if you use only gumpaste is fine (try them and whatever works for you, its fine).  There are different kinds of fondant, I usually go for the rolled fondant for my figurines and cakes (unless the customer asks for an specific fondant on a cake), and since you add 1 tsp of CMC or Tylosse (I´m not sure if I´m writing it right) this helps to harden your fondant.    Try gumpaste or fondant or both (50% each).  See what works for you beter.  Hope I helped!

Thank you!  This little guy´s legs are wide, kind of heavy and they are supported by a long dowel in each foot, long enough to stick them in the cake and stay, sometimes I cut a little piece of a disposable plate (the white ones like styrofoam) to use it as a support, I make two little wholes in it to fit the dowels into, to make sure it won´t move.  But I won´t lie to you I suffer, just to think it will fall!

Thank you for you kind comment, I love making figurines, it is kind of  a challenge every time, sometimes the more simple things are the most complicates.

Thank you very much Sandra, the hardest part was the jacket, but I enjoyed making it, and your flowers are gorgeous, I find it kind of difficult to make flowers the figures are easier, but I need to practice my flowers.

Hi Luz, thank you for your comment on the wedding cascading cake - I truly enjoyed making the flowers (gumpaste).

Also, I love the figure you made from gumpaste and fondant - very intricate details - with a creative flair.  Love it!
