Rectangular tray bake of vanilla sponge, filled with jam and vanilla buttercream. With young children in the family, I often keep my sponges very basic for young palettes. I then covered the whole cake in white fondant. For the face, I found a picture on the internet and printed it out at the size I wanted it to be. Then cut that out to create a template, which I placed lightly on the dried fondant. Using a pin, I pricked through the paper to help guide be for the basic outline and features, which I then drew in black edible ink pen. The rest was free hand painted using edible food colourings of various makes, depending on the colour I needed. When the paint was dry, I dusted over just a touch of gold shimmer to the eyelids, cheeks, neck to try to give some depth. Earring is a silver dragee. The edges of the cake are chocolate buttercream scored around with a fork to try to give a wooden frame effect.

Thank you!
well done!
My family gets very angry if i bake too often as the decoration takes too much of my time. So I space it out.
Yes, that's the problem isn't it? My husband would go mad if I made cake as often as I would like to!
I have been wanting to try out this pin technique, hopefully soon. Like I always say so much to do but who is going to eat all the cake lol.
Gosh Anne, thank you so much! You've brought a tear to my eye for that.
Katy, this looks like a picture not a cake. Its awesome.
What a great likeness (pricking with a pin is such a great idea - thanks for sharing). Tx
Well done!
