This is Jade, my 15 year old granddaughter and her cake that she made for her boyfriend. I was so proud of her. (I guess it's a fashion statement to wear your hat while decorating?) Her's is a red velvet 6" square with cream cheese icing and decorations. She did use three of my royal icing roses that I had left over from my cake, but she did all the rest. Not too bad, I would say!

I guess she will be doing alot more cake decorating from now on. lol
What is funny, Dina, is that Jade's internal furnace is hotter than hot and when she tries to do butter cream, the icing melts all over her hands, so she hasn't messed with any decorating since she was about 11. I just happened to have Royal icing that I was working with on my Valentine cake, and she tried it and found out that it did not melt in the bag. She was elated! She finally found a medium that she can work with. Plus, she got so much feedback from people on Facebook that her confidence is way up there now. We did have to really stiffen up the icing on this cake for her to be able to get it to work without melting.
She certainly inherited your talent. This is lovely. It is so nice that your grandchildren took an interest in something you obviously love and you are able to share your experience with them.
I was pretty pleased with her efforts, Gail, and I know she was too! Her boyfriend put on his facebook page: My freaking awesome girlfriend made me a freaking awesome valentine cake. Kids. I just had to smile when I read that.
love it . wow she did an awesome job . wow .
I'm just grateful that both my granddaughters and my oldest grandson like to mess around with the cake stuff. My daughter grew up with it all, so she has no interest in it at all. She is content to be a hair stylist, and she is always concerned about her weight (a whopping 110-115 pounds) so she won't eat any of it either. I have another grandson, but he's only 3 and makes quite a mess doing it so I limit his involvement to just on certain occasions.
It must be nice to be able to share your expertise with her and to see her doing so well. You have every right to be proud.
Thank you Goreti. I was so proud of her. She was so patient with her lattice work and her red hearts. I think she is beautiful too. I wish I could have decorated as good as she is doing at 15.
Both your granddaughter & the cake are gorgeous.
