Well, I am glad to know the top is covered in fondant because I was beginning to have a severe complex!

If I had tried to do wings the way you did, Katy, it wouldn't have been the tail that broke!  I would never be able to do this with royal icing and gum paste!  And I just love, love your airbrush work.

thanks again all!  so sweet of you.

Sandra this is not buttercream no.  That was just the crumb coat .  The cake is covered in fondant.  The flames and icicles are modelling paste and the piping on the top edges is royal icing (just to make sure the icicles stayed put!  I thought I might have made a mistake with the fondant though.  Had the cake in the fridge after crumb coating as it is so hot here at the moment, but didn't let it come right up to room temp before I covered in fondant as I thought the buttercream might melt too much.  Then I worried that the condensation on it might make the fondant slip overnight!  Fortunately, I got away with it - sides are a bit messy but that didn't matter.

Bonnie, the wing supports actually ended up just being modelling paste!  I put a cocktail stick into the arms and the body then piped royal icing down the back of the wings onto the body to hold them firm.  Then sprayed over it.

I love it too Katy, Especially your Dragon!  And the fire!  And the ice cycles!  So How did you finally do the wing supports?

Your cake turned out terrific, Katy!  The Drogon looks even better on the cake (he is adorable).  The flames are great, too.  Did you say this is buttercream on top of this cake?  I can't even get fondant that smooth, not to mention bc!
