Cynthia... never a silly question... only information you have not discovered yet!!! I piped all the scrolls on parchment paper out of royal icing and allowed them to dry for a few days then I used gold highlighter mixed with vodka and painted them then allowed those to dry for a few days. They were very fragile and I had to make tons extra because they did break easy. Time consuming process. I don't have a steady enough hand to paint them after putting them on. :-)

I'm new at making cakes so maybe my question will be silly but I'm trying to learn so here it goes ... How did you paint the gold details? before you put it on the cake or after? Thanks
