this was a 50th anniversary cake for a friend of mine's in-laws. She added stuff to the topper that wasn't there when I was designing the cake.

Your cake was perfect....without the topper. My Mom did that to her 50th wedding anniversary cake when I made it for her and Dad. That was back when fountains were being used, and the cake looked fine, until my Mom decided the water needed to be red. Your cake was beautiful and didn't need that topper at all.
