I totally agree. If this had come out like the original I wouldn't have posted it. They actually ended up preferring this to the original anyway.

In a way this actually worked out well. It's one thing to get ideas from other's cakes but I'm not comfortable & don't think it's right copying someone else's design to the tee. So my cake disaster allowed me to put myself in it & make it my own.

Thanks Galidink. I know that sounds weird & backward but here's what happened. I had a major cake disaster and had to come up w/a plan B. My grandniece & her mom had found a cake on the internet & asked if I could duplicate it. The cake was originally supposed to be iced & filled w/BC then covered w/fondant as is normally the process, which I did. The original design was supposed to be an ombre design, u know w/the ruffles around the sides. Well, I've never done ruffles before & after I'd done a few rows I decided I wasn't happy w/them so tried taking them off. I had rolled my fondant to cover the cake w/fairly thin b/c I knew the ruffles were going to be fondant as well & that's a lot of fondant. So when I was trying to get the ruffles off it was tearing the fondant that was already on the cake. I got off as much as I could then just left the rest as is & came up w/the other design to cover up the disaster. Good thing it was for a family member & not a paying customer. But, everyone thought it was absolutely beautiful & I actually gained a new client.
